How would you suggest such a transition to Bare foot Running
My tip to those who are transitioning from a running back ground is to stop running and start walking and this is hard for a competitive runner for obvious reasons.
Unless you are a naturally inclined forefoot runner the whole action of a bare foot runner is different than running in a shoe.
Once you take your shoes of the body will instinctively want to run differently if you were more a heel striker you will not go far before you jar to a halt.
Explaination of a heel strike verses a forefoot strike
I would always encourage people even those who are not runners to walk bare boot with a very deliberate manner to encourage activation and strengthening of the mechanics of your feet.
This video I did goes through a good deliberate walking motion
Once you have the feel for the ground head out for a walk on the road way or pavement for a short walk, enough to get a feel for the road without getting to sore.
Gradually increase your time and then start to have run intervals as you get more comfortable. I suggest you take a look at the
Pose running technique www.posetech.com
as a form to learn that complements the barefoot running style.
This form calls for you to run with a slightly bent knee, landing toward your forefoot ( not toes), with your supporting leg strike, under your hip and your body leaning forward creating a gravity forward momentum lifting your heels straight up to your buttocks.
This will feel strange until you get used to it but it is being adopted by top level athletes.
The results will vary for you as you discover what area of your mechanics and form needs to be worked on.
If you keep to the forefront of your mind, to keep a light footfall and do not concern your self with speed at first, just maintain ,a high leg speed turnover.
I have always maintained that you need to take a very mindful aspect into your running.
Develop a sense a awareness of your environment, listen to your bodies feedback you will develop an awareness that is not possible when you are wearing shoes
