Yes that is so true, you do get great athletes but they do not get to compete at national level for financial or family reasons. Does it mean the the quality of qualifiers goes down, as spots get handed down to just make up the numbers, it has to, is it good for the sport, hard call, but for me I think there should be a qualifying point it's ridiculous to have a have an Olympic distance Championship event and have competitors who take 4 hours to around it.
Good luck with having a good season and getting over your shin splint difficulties

Well I can tell you that my local tri happens to be a national qualifier and has 10 spots per age group for the Olympic and for the sprint. And it's roll down so even if you're not in the top ten, you can still get in since most people can't afford to travel to Nationals. The top ten in the the Oly AG's are all pretty darn good triathletes but the top ten of each AG in the sprint are not. I have qualified in the sprint both times I've done it. I'm not bad but I'm no National Champion...

Do I think it should be like that? Well that's a tough one. Kona has plenty of people who get in without even qualifying. If they can do that at Kona, then I guess Worlds is the same thing.
