A couple of years back I read an article in Mens health magazine that started me down the path of learning about minimalist footwear and barefoot running Christopher Mcdougall, wrote a piece on the
Tarahumara Indians of Mexico’s Copper Canyons
I have been a competitive athlete for some time and was suffering from ankle and lower limb problems that would not go away, so after hearing about barefoot running I decided to see if it was as they were proposing, that it is a more natural and a better proposition than expensive and unnecessary footwear.
I was listening to a great show over at Adventure Edge Radio

Jimmy had a great interview with Barefoot Ted a leader and a knowledgeable man on the Tarahumara Indians their culture and the minimalist footwear.
I have learned a lot from the inspiration of guys like Barefoot Ted and other proponents of minimalist running.
For me it connects to my life style of raw foods and minimalist impact on our environment and the health of this planet we all exist on
During my transition to Barefoot running I have had to learn a few things which I have written about on this blog.
Most of the difficulty I have had has been from trying to run at the same level of competition without giving my body the opportunity to get strong where it needed to be, after too many years atrophying the natural systems.
I personally find it a most satisfying thing to be able to just go out and run knowing that I do not NEED any footwear to be able to experience movement and keep my body and mind in a state of health and vigor.
Running is a natural state that should not be dictated to, by the belief that without footwear injury will occur.
This type of thinking has been generated and expounded on by commercial exploitation of modern footwear companies.
As a point of clarification, like all things ,the individual bio mechanics of a person will dictate the level of engagement one can have in any given activity but the the message is your body is designed to run we have to get back to using the built in mechanics we were given, not rely on external aids to correct poor form and inefficient running techniques.
