Aventure racing

So, we’re now 2 months out from the first Teva event. Are you ready for the challenges that lie ahead? For those of you who are focused on finishing at the front of the pack, or for those of you who are just doing it for fun, and need  a few tips to help you along, here are ten training tips which will help you to pull all aspects of your training together.

  • Plan your season and your training. Work out how much time you have for each week leading into events and play with training intensities and training times. By overloading your body it will gradually become stronger and fitter.
  • Long rides and runs are going to increase your fitness. Aim to complete one long ride and one run once a week.
  • Practice running off the bike after you’ve been for a ride. It will help condition your body to allow blood flow and neuron activation.
  • If your not strength training, start now. You will gain massive increases in performance with no added gain in weight if the training is done well. Try adding push ups and squats into your training during the week.
  • Strength train once a week. Use other training sessions for cardio and skills training.
  • Stretch at least once a day. Having good flexibility will help prevent injuries and increase your strength, speed and stamina.
  • Have at least one complete day of rest per week. You need time to recover from your training.
  • If you are coming down with a cold or a flu, decrease your training time and work on getting better. You can’t train through sickness!
  • Food – Eat the same food during training as you plan to during the event
  • Drinks – You need at least 1.5 liters of water per hour while competing and training. Energy and sports drinks such as High 5, are good to have during and after events.
